EDA at Work

The Urban Institute, a nonprofit research organization, received an EDA grant to evaluate the agency and its programs. This research examines EDA’s funding allocations and grantmaking programs, the agency’s history and goals, the attributes of communities receiving EDA investments, and the extent to which EDA investments spur local economic growth.

This website highlights the results of that evaluation through research briefs and stories about the people and places that benefited from EDA’s investments and expertise. The EDA investments listed on this site are current through 2021.

Project

I was the photo editor and photographer for this project. I collaborated with the writers to collect images from their sources and did extensive photography research to source images for each story. I worked with the UX and UI designers and directed how the story should flow and what elements should be highlighted. COVID-19 prevented me from creating custom photography for all of the sites, but I did travel to South Dakota to capture images of daily life, a buffalo harvest, and portraits on the Rosebud Reservation.

A version of the Rosebud story was republished on Urban.org and is nominated for a 2022 President’s Award, the highest honor awarded at the Urban Institute.
